Coming Home to the Mountains Quilt Class

Join us to make a wall hanging by learning how to cut and piece 60 degree triangles to make the mountains and sky. Next, we learn English Paper Piecing to make a our own garden, and then let's make some Log Cabin blocks to complete our quilts. A kit is included with class, you will receive a pattern, hexagon paper pieces, and all of the fabric for the top, backing, and binding.
A beginner quilter who has master rotary cutting, and 1/4" seam allowance will be able to make this quilt.
You will learn how to cut and sew together 60 degree triangles and learn that it's really easy. A new technique to impress your friends. Make four traditional Log Cabin blocks with a red center, which represents a fire is burning in the hearth of a fireplace. This blocks dates back to the 1800's and you will be able to make amazing future quilts with just this one block.
Our gardens will be the traditional Grandmother's Flower Garden patchwork using an English Paper Piecing or better known as "EPP" in the quilting world. You will learn how to whip stitch your hexagons together and how to fussy cut.
We will be piecing our sections together by machine and/or by hand. You will learn how to hand applique your garden, which is fun.

Skill Details: | This isn't your first quilt you want to make, but maybe the second or third one. You need to know how to rotary cut, sew 1/4" seam allowance, operate your sewing machine, and glue. |

Requirements: | Bring your perfectly running sewing machine with your quarter inch quilting foot if you have one, if not we can make sure you are sewing a perfect 1/4" seam. You will need some basic sewing supplies: pins, needles, seam ripper, and scissors. A neutral thread (we like to use a light gray). There are a few for you to pick from in optional notions to purchase. The green thread matches the greens used in the Grandmother's Flower Garden if you want to order one for yourself. Make sure to wind a bobbin to get started sewing right away. |

Instructor Bio: | Kim McPeake is one our staff members who started her quilting journey in the 1990's, before rotary cutting and sewing machines that could lift their presser foot and cut the thread for you. She has a love of quilting and wants the world to embrace all parts of quilting. Kim wants you to have your light bulb moment in your quilting to where you will say, "Hey I can do this and it's not that hard". |
