Double Knitting Two-sided scarf

Double knitting uses only knitting and purling, no lace here, as the choice of two complementary yarns is what makes this scarf stand out.  This is a two session intro to double knitting.  Pattern included with the class.  For the intermediate knitter, who has worked from charts, this is a fairly easy technique to add to your knitting skills. If you haven't used charts before, this is a fun way to learn.

Class may be cancelled if student participation minimum is not met.

Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: You must know how to knit and purl in the same row and how to pick up dropped stitches.
Materials Included: Hard copy pattern to be given out at first class, $2.00 material fee to instructor
Requirements: 1. Pattern included in the materials fee. 2. Worsted weight yarn of your choice (125 grams each of two colors or about 4 oz. each of two colors). Yarn Options - Two different colorways of multicolor yarn with NO similar or identical colors. 100 grams or so of EACH color. It is important that no colors be alike in the two yarns. Or a solid and a multi-color, again with no identical colors. - Two yarns of the same weight with a good contrast between them such as a solid color and a multi-color that does not contain any of the solid color, or two different solid colors. 100 grams or so of each color. Needles 3. US circular needles in size 6, 7 or 8 depending on your yarn and your knitting style (loose or tight). Cable can be 10-20 inches. You can do this on straight needles if you prefer, but will need circulars for the bind-off and they will make it is easier to fix some mistakes. Bring two sizes of needles to class, the ones you plan to knit with and another one size smaller. 4. Small scissors to cut yarn 5. Tapestry or yarn needle 6. Crochet hook or knitting tool with crochet hook on the end for repairing dropped stitches. 7. Sticky notes or highlighter tape. 8. Notebook and pen or pencil 9. Three Stitch Markers in at least two different colors. Homework: Review these materials and try, if you can to do this two color Italian cast-on. We will spend about half an hour in class practicing it. Don't worry if you don't master it before class!
